The Department of Political Science was established in 1989 as a complementary course for BA History and BA Mass Communication & Journalism.
Minor Programmes
The Political Science Department at NMSM Government College offers two comprehensive minor programs designed to provide students from various disciplines with critical insights into constitutional principles, human rights, and governance. These programs aim to develop analytical skills, enhance civic awareness, and prepare students for careers in law, governance, and social justice.
Minor in Indian Constitution and Political System
This three-semester program offers an in-depth study of the Indian Constitution, state politics, and the political landscape in Kerala. It is structured as follows:
- Semester 1: Indian Constitution (60 hours, 4 credits) – Internal Assessment: 30 marks – External Exam: 70 marks – Total: 100 marks
- Semester 2: State and Politics in India (60 hours, 4 credits) – Internal Assessment: 30 marks – External Exam: 70 marks – Total: 100 marks
- Semester 3: State and Politics in Kerala (60 hours, 4 credits) – Internal Assessment: 30 marks – External Exam: 70 marks – Total: 100 marks
Minor in Human Rights
This three-semester program focuses on the study of human rights, constitutional principles, and gender politics. It is structured as follows:
